BUSHWICK, Brooklyn — A young mother is dead and police on Monday said they arrested the father of her children in connection to the shooting.

Sade Sanchez, 24, was walking with her mom and boyfriend on Menahan Street and St. Nicholas Avenue in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday when she was shot several times in the torso.

Sanchez was transported to the hospital where she later died.

Police said the suspect, 26-year-old Gabriel Rivera, turned himself in to police Monday morning.

Rivera is Sanchez’s ex-boyfriend and also the father of their two young sons.

Rivera has previously been arrested in four separate incidents dating back to 2007, including an arrest for assault in 2015.

“She left behind two little boys,” Joseph Ayala, a family friend of the victim, said. “All and all [she] was a good soul.”

Rivera was charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon on Monday.
