SHEEPSHEAD BAY, Brooklyn (PIX11) — A man was struck in the head with a hatchet and then shot in a Brooklyn parking lot Thursday night in what police described as an incident involving the suspect’s estranged wife.
The 42-year-old victim was stabbed in the head with a hatchet, then shot in the chest near 3090 Ocean Ave. around 9 p.m., according to the NYPD. First responders took the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The assailant, who has not yet been identified, knew the victim, police said. The victim is a friend of the suspect’s estranged wife, according to the NYPD.
Police said the suspect was taken into custody, with charges pending. Officers found a bloody hatchet and a firearm at the scene, according to authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing.
