CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn — The 20-year-old man accused of fatally shooting Tiarah Poyau during the J’Ouvert celebration was hit with murder charges during his Wednesday night arraignment, prosecutors said.

Regenald Moise allegedly shot Poyau, 22, in the face at point blank range around 5 a.m. on Monday. He’s facing charges for murder, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment for the shooting.

Moise was also charged with reckless endangerment for another Monday incident, prosecutors said. He discharged a handgun – the same one that killed Poyau – inside a Crown Heights apartment building. The bullet shot through a wall into a room where someone was sleeping. That person was not injured.

Moise was apparently intoxicated when he was initially detained in connection to the shooting, police said. He is scheduled back in court on Sept. 12, court documents show.

A GoFundMe drive has raised more than $8,300 to cover Poyau’s funeral costs.

“My beautiful, amazing, sweet, intelligent and wonderful niece, Tiarah Poyau was taken away way too early,” the victim’s aunt, Tara Poyau, wrote on the GoFundMe. “Her death is so unfair, unlogical and not right!”

No arrests have been made in the death of Tyreke Borel, a 17 year old who was also gunned down during J’ouvert.
