BROOKLYN (PIX11) — A fire broke out in a building on Clarkson Avenue in Brooklyn Friday night, according to FDNY.

The Prospect Lefferts Gardens apartment building’s top floor became engulfed in flames and smoke around 5:30 p.m. An FDNY spokesperson said they were able to get the fire under control in under three hours, around 8 p.m. There were four people with minor injuries, including one firefighter.

Firefighters said that the flames had already spread into the area between the top-floor apartments and the building’s roof when they arrived only about two and a half minutes after the first call. It was a difficult battle because the fire was at the very top of the building. Firefighters had to open up the ceiling, drag five different hose lines to the upper stories, and direct their efforts at the flames.

The official cause of the fire is still under investigation. Neighbors told PIX11 News that this building had several smaller electrical fires recently and thought that could’ve played a part in this.
