MORRIS HEIGHTS, the Bronx — A 32-year-old man is dead following a police-involved shooting at a Bronx apartment, police said.

Police say the man had this knife. (NYPD)

Police responded to the fourth floor of a Morris Heights apartment along Grand Avenue just before 11 p.m. Sunday for a reported harassment. The NYPD received two 911 calls about a man threatening people and banging on doors with a large stick,

When they arrived, officers encountered Kawaski Trawick with a knife and what appeared to be a broom handle wrapped in black tape, police said.

The officers told Trawick several times to drop the weapons, but he didn’t comply, officials said. One officer deployed a Taser, striking Trawick and causing him to fall to the floor.

The officers went to disarm Trawick and take him into custody, but then he jumped to his feet and charged at the cops, stick and knife still in hand, police said. Both officers moved out of the apartment, but Trawick followed after them.

The same officer who deployed his Taser fired his service weapon four times, hitting Trawick in the chest and torso area, police said.

He was taken to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Trawick had been arrested three times before. In one instance, he was taken into custody for harassing and threatening neighbors.

The officer who fired his weapon and deployed his Taser had four years on the job, officials said. He was wearing a body camera. The other officer is a 15-year veteran of the department.
