THE BRONX — Kwasi Oduro, 73, has been arraigned, and his bail has been set at $10,000, after he was charged with driving his SUV into a Bronx fast-food restaurant, killing 7-year-old Ethan Villavicencio.
The crash also injured two other people. He then allegedly tried to flee the scene.
Oduro’s church says it will post the $10,000 bail.
He faces three charges of leaving the scene of an accident, one resulting in death and two counts of causing injury, police said early Friday.
Prosecutors made the case that Oduro showed little regard in the moments following the accident. For the first time, we learned little Ethan’s fathers cried out to Oduro that he’d run over little Ethan and his 5-year-old daughter. Prosecutors said even after hearing that, he hit accelerator and tried to speed away.
He was stopped first the store’s owner but kept on driving and was stopped by two traffic agents.
Orduro is a pharmacist at Jacobi Hospital, the same hospital where the victims were hospitalized. Oduro on Friday was joined by his wife, daughter and members of his church who say this was all an accident.
He returns to court on June 10.
