THE BRONX (PIX11) — A 7-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a driver struck her in the Bronx then drove away from the scene, police said.

It happened Sunday night near 1012 East 213th St. in the Eastchester section of the Bronx, authorities said.

The girl was crossing the street to follow an ice cream truck when the SUV hit her. The car then took off, leaving the girl critically injured.

Elvis Perez tells PIX11 the little girl’s aunt and mother were on opposite sides of the street when it happened.

“When she was hit the driver also ran over her and kept going,” Perez said.

The little girl had been attending a barbecue with her family.

She was taken to Jacobi Hospital in critical but stable condition with broken legs and a broken hip.

Police are searching for a dark-colored Jeep Wrangler, possibly with front-end damage.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call NYPD’s anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
