MORRISANIA, the Bronx – A woman was found dead with burns inside her Bronx apartment bathroom Sunday, police said.
The NYPD said officers responded to a fire at the Webster Houses around 4 p.m. Upon arrival, they found a woman with severe burns throughout her body, police said.
She was pronounced dead inside her home.
The victim had her 63-year-old fiance and 10-year-old child in the apartment. They told police the victim was cooking when suddenly they smelled smoke inside the apartment. A preliminary investigation found that the victim may have accidentally caught on fire while in the kitchen and possibly ran to the bathroom to try and put herself out, according to FDNY.
Police say the death does not appear to be suspicious.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
