LONGWOOD, the Bronx (PIX11) — A body was found inside a car that was on fire in the Bronx, according to the FDNY.

Neighbors told PIX11 News they saw the victim, who has not been identified, hop back into the car after the fire started. He never made it out.

“I thought I was bugging out when he walked to the car like that, because he walked right into the flames,” one witness, who did not want to be identified, said. “I was yelling at him ‘watch out … the thing is blowing up,’ and he still got in the car.”

Witnesses also said they heard loud engine revving just ahead of the fire starting.

Firefighters were assigned to put out a car fire along Intervale Avenue near Beck Street at around 5:30 a.m. on Monday, officials said. They found a body inside the car.

The fire was contained at around 6:30 a.m. The investigation remained ongoing.
