NEW YORK — New York City’s Catholic elementary schools will shut down for at least a week beginning Monday, the archdiocese announced Thursday.

The system will shut down Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 20, “with the possibility of a lengthier closure,” a statement from the Archdiocese of New York said.

All activities and sporting events and practices have also been “canceled indefinitely.”

There is no suggestion that the schools will move to online learning but they say that teachers have been preparing educational materials for “ongoing, home-based learning to ensure our students continue to be academically engaged.”
