NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Two adults and a child are dead and a toddler is in critical condition after a shooting in the town of Newburgh, New York, according to officials.

Police said reports of gunfire came in at about 8a.m. at a home along Route 300 near Chadwick Lake Park.

Officers arrived and found two adults, a man and a woman both in their 20s, and a 10-year-old boy shot to death at the scene, authorities said a press conference.

A 3-year-old child was also shot and taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police said.

Another child was found at the home unharmed.

Police said a person of interest was being questioned and they do not believe this was a random act, saying they believe the suspected gunman was known to the victims.

Authorities confirmed there is no threat to the public.

The identities of the victims have not yet been released.

About a mile of the main road in the area surrounding the home was closed as authorities investigated.
