NEW YORK (PIX11) — A powerful winter storm battered the tri-state area, dumping up to 2 feet of snow in the hardest hit places, including eastern Long Island. The city and points north and west were spared blizzard conditions, but still received snow.

By early Tuesday, the blizzard warning had been lifted for New York City and New Jersey but remained in effect for eastern Long Island and much of Connecticut.

Strong gusty winds up to 30 mph are possible in some areas and the Weather Service says whiteout conditions could make travel extremely dangerous.
