A combination of a frontal system and the remnants of Hurricane Patricia will cross the region within the next 24-48 hours giving copious amounts of rain, wind and some flooding along coastal sections.
Clouds have already moved in well ahead of the storm on Tuesday and will stick around through the night. Temperatures will be around 50 degrees in the city.
The rain is expected to develop around the morning commute on Wednesday. An strong onshore flow will develop with winds increasing to 15-20 mph. Coastal Flood Advisories have been issued for much of the region for Wednesday morning’s high tide as a result of the high winds off the ocean and the full moon that is occurring on Tuesday. There could be an additional advisory issued later on for the evening high tide cycle depending on how the storm shapes up. On top of this, Wind Advisories could be issued later on for the potential of 30-40 mph wind gusts that may occur by Wednesday night
Eventually the rain will become heavy at times in the afternoon and into evening as the warm front lifts across the region. While widespread flooding is not expected due to ongoing drought, some ponding in localized spots cannot be ruled out. Rainfall amounts are generally expected to be 1.5 – 2.5 inches by the time the storm tapers off.
During much of the Wednesday, temperatures will be in the upper 50s to around 60. The passage of the warm front at night will keep temperatures in the mid 60s through the night.
The rain will taper off early Thursday morning and skies will partially clear. Temperatures will climb to the lower 70s before a trailing cold front crosses through in the afternoon. That front will make the mercury plummet through the night and bottom out in the upper 40s by Friday morning.
Friday looks great for Game 3 of the World Series in Flushing. However, it’ll be cooler with high temperatures at around 60. Halloween, which is on Saturday, and Marathon Sunday stay dry and sunny as well with temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
