ASTORIA, Queens — A slain grandmother was found face down in her kitchen with a knife in her back Wednesday morning, sources told PIX11 News.

It happened inside a sixth-floor apartment at the Astoria Houses, near Astoria Boulevard and Eighth Street.

Donna Blanchard, 64, who walks with a cane and recently was discharged from the hospital was discovered at about 8 a.m. by her home health aide, sources said.

The aide knew something was wrong when she could not enter Blanchard’s apartment with her key. The aide then alerted the victim’s daughter, who lives in the same building. Both women made the gruesome discovery.

They found the victim face down in her kitchen, mortally wounded with a knife in her back. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Residents in the building told PIX11 News the victim was a “good neighbor” and described her as being “great.”

No arrests have been made in the case, which is being treated as a homicide.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause of death, the investigation is ongoing.
