KEYSVILLE, Ga. —Customers of a Georgia convenience store are calling one of the clerks a hero because she stood face-to-face with a robber and used anything she could get her hands on to fight back.

Bumika Patel was working the store alone when a hooded man came in for a Mountain Dew. She could tell by his body language on the 16 surveillance cameras that something wasn’t right.

When he demanded all her money at the register, she barely hesitated. In the choice between fight or flight, she chose to attack and she scared away the robber with only her hands and a hammer.

Surveillance video shows her chasing him outside the store, with the hammer still in her hand.

Authorities say the 17-year-old suspect is now in custody, and has been charged with attempted armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during a crime.
