HAVERSTRAW, NY — A woman is dead and seven other members of her family were hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after an angry driver allegedly struck them twice at a 7-11, officials said.

A 35-year-old man at the 7-11 with family argued with the driver, Police Captain Martin Lund said. The driver then got into a vehicle and allegedly rammed into the eight family members, hit the store and then backed up, hitting the victims again.

Officials said a 32-year-old woman was killed. She has not yet been identified.

Six children below the age of 10 were injured, including a baby. The 35-year-old man was also hurt. Their injuries range from minor to very serious, officials said. A 2-year-old child was among the victims to suffer serious injuries. None of the injuries appear to be life threatening.

The suspect is in police custody. He allegedly got out of the vehicle with a knife and was tased when he didn’t respond to officer commands to drop the knife. Police have not yet identified him. He has family in the county, but appears to live in Texas.

There’s no indication he knew the family.
