Authorities in Guatemala are scrambling to determine whether the man considered to be Mexico’s most-wanted drug lord – Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman – was one of several believed to have been killed in a late-night shootout.

According to officials, details about the shootout remain under investigation because no bodies have been found and it still remains unclear if a shootout even happened.

Local reports say the gunbattle unraveled in the rural area of Peten between two drug gangs. Following the violent clash, at least 2 men were said to have died.

Preliminary reports claimed one of the men resembled Guzman.

A search of the remote, rural area was underway Friday in search of the bodies and location of the reported gun battle.
