WOODBRIDGE, New Jersey (PIX11) – The man who was driving a fuel tanker-truck when the the vehicle erupted in flames after an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike ramp has died.
Police say Carlos Vinciguerra-Gomez, 58, succumbed to his injuries a day after he was badly burned when his truck, which was transporting gasoline, crashed around 1:45 p.m. near Interchange 11 in Woodbridge.
Vinciguerra-Gomez lost control on the curve of the ext ramp, hit the guardrail and fence, sending the truck toppling on its side in one of the southbound lanes. The fuel ignited, sparking a massive fire that send a large column of black smoke into the air.
Vinciguerra-Gomez, of Elizabeth, was alone in the truck when he crashed.
Police are still investigating what caused the accident.
