NEW YORK — The city’s public hospital system is hiring non-medical staff to help combat the coronavirus outbreak,the mayor’s office announced Sunday.

NYC Health + Hospitals is looking to fill 500 positions that do not require a medical background, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s press secretary Freddi Goldstein.

The hospital system needs people to handle patient transportation, clerical work and cleaning. Those interested in applying should visit, http://NYC.gov/coronavirus.

The mayor’s office expects to hire “thousands” of people to fill similar roles in the future, Goldstein said.
