HARLEM, Manhattan — A nurse abandoned vacation plans and volunteered in New York at the start of the coronavirus outbreak; she’s now headed home to her children in California.

She was supposed to be on a Disney cruise with her family. Instead, Ana Wilkinson battled through a nightmare over the last six weeks at NYC Health + Hospitals / Harlem.

“The hardest thing was having the patients pass away without any family there,” she said.”I would follow where they are and just be there in their last moment, hold their hand and cry.”

She danced as she left the hospital Wednesday. New York’s coronavirus numbers are going down and, instead of looking for thanks, Wilkinson thanked New York.

“I have an amazing team; Harlem Hospital has been my family for the last six weeks,” she said.
