- There are 2,651 new cases in New Jersey for a total of 121,190 statewide.
- There are 311 additional deaths, bringing the death toll to 7,538.
- Of those sick, there are 5,972 hospitalizations, 1,724 patients in the ICU and 1,286 patients on ventilators.
- Racial breakdown of victims: 52.6% white, 19.6% black, 17.3% Hispanic, 5.3% Asian, 5.2% other.
- There are 498 nursing homes and assisted living facilities reporting COVID-19 patients.
- Out of the 696 people in veteran homes, 327 are positive and there have been four new deaths.
- There are 161 psychiatric patients in state facilities with COVID-19.
- The Labor Department has processed 193,000 additional unemployment insurance claims for a total of 622,000. There are 200,000 unresolved claims, mostly from individuals who are self-employed, independent contractors or gig workers.
- A decision will be announced by Monday or Tuesday on whether schools will remain closed for the remainder of the academic year. Read more.
- With warm, sunny weather on the horizon, Murphy said residents will be tested this weekend on social distancing.
- State parks, county parks and golf courses will reopen Saturday, but social distancing rules remain in effect. Murphy said all reopened areas will be monitored and shutdowns could happen if social distancing rules are broken.
- “I recognize that we all want to be outside getting fresh air … we are not making you, but I’m asking your to wear a mask. We are trusting in you to keep up with your social distancing,” Murphy said.
- “Data determines dates,” of the reopening plan, the governor added.
- Reminder: Renters are able to use security deposits to cover rent, either in-part or in-full. Additionally, all evictions are suspended amid the COVID-19 crisis.
- State and local police investigated a Trenton funeral home on Thursday and found 18 bodies being stored for services. It was determined there was no criminality in the situation but the funeral director was told to transport 11 of the bodies to a temporary morgue. Seven bodies were allowed to remain because services will be held within the next three days, State Police Superintendent Pat Callahan said.
