CONWAY, S.C. (PIX11) — A South Carolina man accused of raping his nephew’s girlfriend was denied bond at a hearing on Saturday, according to WMBF.
William Mattson, 52, has been charged with criminal sexual conduct in the first degree, after reportedly sexually assaulting the woman.
A 27-year-old relative of Mattson, reportedly his nephew, told Conway Police that he found Mattson on top of his girlfriend.
The man told police he repeatedly struck Mattson over and over until he was out of the house.
Mattson was arrested Jan. 1 and taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
Mattson told police he and the victim were drinking together, and said “the victim was naked under her blanket, and he was fully clothed.”
“The detectives had spoken to the victim and had instructed me the victim states the encounter was not consensual,” an investigator stated in the police report.
The 27-year-old man will not be charged because he was acting in defense of the victim, according to Lt. Selena Small.
