NEW YORK (PIX11) – The mayor is continuing his fight against obesity.

On Wednesday, July 17th Mayor Michael Bloomberg mapped out a new initiative to combat obesity in the city, calling it an “active design”.

The initiative promotes physical activity through design changes for buildings and public spaces.

The mayor signed an executive order requiring city agencies to use ‘active design’ strategies in all new construction and major renovation projects. He also introduced two pieces of legislation to promote access to stairways in all buildings.
