NEW YORK (PIX11) – “Very depressing not to have him home, it wasn’t a Christmas,” said Fontaine.

A few weeks ago, Fontaine told PIX 11 she expected her son Avonte Oquendo home for the holidays. Instead, Fontaine has been grappling with a new report obtained by her attorney, David Perecman, from the Department of Education. It’s a timeline of her autistic son’s disappearance, but for her its a terrible sequence of events, of failed responsibilities, that led to the disappearance of her son.

“It’s not one thing, it’s many things that were wrong. It’s very upsetting,” said Fontaine.

Fontaine was noticeably thinner during an interview with PIX11.  She says she and her team of volunteers continue to search daily.

Fontaine told PIX11 she goes into corners, into homeless shelters and into dark alleys. Anywhere to find her son.

PIX11 reached out to the Department of Education; a spokesperson said, “Avonte’s disappearance is a heartbreaking situation, and Chancellor Walcott has spoken with Avonte’s family and expressed his deep concern as Chancellor, as a parent and as a grandparent.”

The case is currently under investigation by the Office of the Special Commissioner of Investigation. All School Security Agents are employed and trained by the New York City Police Department, according to the DOE.

“There’s no question that based on this report that the NYPD was not contacted promptly,” said Perecman.

“We’ll find him, I’m positive we’ll find him and then he’ll be sitting here with me talking to you, and we’ll have this conversation and it will be a happy,” said Fontaine.
