NEW DORP, Staten Island (PIX11) – With the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy approaching, many residents of New Dorp in Staten Island are still waiting for help.

On November 12, 2012, President Obama and Governor Cuomo stood in front of a gutted home and promised residents they would help rebuild the neighborhood battered by Sandy.

Almost one year later, the home still remains gutted, with garbage and building materials laying outside.

All throughout the neighborhood, there dozens of dilapidated homes and not much signs of rebuilding. Homemade “believe” signs hang on poles, showing the hope that remains in the devastated community.

Only one home in Staten Island has been bought out by the government’s program.
