BROOKLYN — A pair of EMTs have been rushed to the hospital after an ambulance overturned near the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge, officials said Friday afternoon.
News of the crash broke about 5:30 p.m. It happened near Tillary and Adams streets, a major intersection near the opening of the Brooklyn Bridge. Photos from the scene show the FDNY emergency vehicle resting on its left side in the middle of the intersection, near a concrete barrier.
The ambulance was heading south on Tillary Street when it collided with a black SUV coming off the bridge. That’s when the ambulance flipped over.
Fire officials at the scene told PIX11 News the ambulance’s lights and sirens were on and it was responding to a different crash nearby.
Two EMT’s were injured and taken to a hospital with serious injuries, sources told PIX11 News. Two civilians suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.
No patient was traveling in the back of the ambulance at the time of the crash, officials said.
