PORTAGE, Ind. (PIX11) — The body of a 92-year-old man was found decomposing in the home he shared with his family in Indiana.

According to WGN, the Porter County coroner said Bob Sufana had been dead for two weeks before his family noticed. Sufana was found sitting upright in a rocking chair in his bedroom by his grandson.

Sufana lived in the home with his grandson, his grandson’s wife and their 7-year-old son. The wife noticed a strong odor coming from the home and asked her husband to check on Sufana.

The coroner reports that the grandson last checked on Sufana on Monday but got no response from him. The grandson told police the last time he remembered speaking to his grandfather was approximately eight days before he was found dead. He also said he checked on his grandfather every other day.

Officials at the scene said they could smell the odor up to 50 feet away from the home.

The Chicago Tribune reports there was little interaction between the family members.

The couple’s 7-year-old son was removed by Child Protective Services due to the condition of the home.

It’s believed that Sufana died of natural causes. No foul play is suspected.
