JACKSON HEIGHTS, Queens — A 9-year-old boy was struck and killed by a car in Queens on Saturday, the NYPD said.

Police said Giovanni Ampuero was crossing Northern Boulevard with his mother just before 1:30 p.m. when a red Jeep Compass travelling north on 70 Street made a left turn onto the street and struck him.

Ampuero suffered severe trauma to his head and torso and was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver kept going but was stopped a few blocks away.
