JACKSON HEIGHTS, Queens — A 34-year-old man was critically injured Wednesday evening when a minivan jumped a curb onto a Queens sidewalk, police said.

The pedestrian was hit after a 48-year-old driver, who was trying to park, somehow lost control of the vehicle around 5:20 p.m. on 82nd Street off of 35th Avenue, witnesses and officials said.

The victim had been walking with a woman before he was hit, witnesses said. The pair wore matching yellow soccer jerseys.

He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst.

The driver stayed on the scene after the crash.

Hours later, blood could be seen on the sidewalk. The metal railing of a staircase was destroyed when the minivan came onto the sidewalk.

Two other people were taken to the hospital for treatment of emotional distress.
