PATERSON, N.J. (PIX11) — Paterson Police said two people were killed and two more seriously injured in an accident early Saturday morning at Haledon Avenue and North First Street.
Tracy Short said he knows one woman who was injured in the crash named Kissana Francis. Short said she was in a coma at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
“I just had to come down here and see what actually happened,” Short said. “It doesn’t seem like it was that bad, but it was bad. And God bless all the families that’s involved in it.”
Short said that Francis lived only a few streets away from the accident site and was likely coming home after going out with friends.
“They were just friends, just out having a good time,” Short said. “Obviously it rained last night so maybe that played a big part in the conditions.”
But a Paterson Police source said investigators were looking into the possibility that the driver of the vehicle may have been under the influence.
Even if police decide the accident was the driver’s fault, neighber James Ramsey said the intersection – which is at the bottom of a hill and brings three streets together – needs more safety measures.
“The city needs to implement some sort of a speed zone here in this area or a light or something here because this is an ongoing problem here,” Ramsey said.
Police did not release identities of those killed, or if the driver was one of the victims.
