NEW YORK — As the coronavirus crisis continues, many are stuck at home while work is drying up. Now what? It’s time to get creative about how to earn money while isolating in place.
Lifestyle expert Trae Bodge shared some money-making suggestions with the PIX11 Morning News.
Use your skills
Do you have a skill that doesn’t involve in-person contact, like graphic design, illustrating or editing? Don’t wait for clients to come to you. Let people know that you are available, either by contacting friends and colleagues directly, or posting in your local Facebook groups. You can also use platforms like Fiverr or Graphite to look for opportunities.
Teach with technology
Can you teach? Even if you usually only teach in person, everything from fitness classes to tutoring and music classes can be taught virtually using Zoom, Skype or Facetime. Use your networks to tell people that you’re available. Also, offer introductory discounts to give people a chance to see how awesome you are.
Earn while you shop online
While you might be pulling back on your shopping for financial reasons, you still have to buy things. You can actually earn money while you shop. Coupon Cabin allows you to earn up to 20% cashback at over 3,500 partner stores. They also have a browser extension called Sidekick which will allow you to earn as you shop. During the COVID-19 crisis, they are waiving their own commissions from retailers, allowing you to earn even more, and they’re making sure you get your payments even faster than usual.
Sell your stuff
We talked a couple weeks ago about selling your gently used clothing, collectibles and tech. I wanted to bring up the tech topic again because I just learned that Americans have a shocking $43B Worth of Unused Tech items, like phones and laptops in their homes, holding on average $199 each. You can sell them by using a site like Decluttr – it’s a really easy platform to use, and they’ve instituted contact-less shipping so it’s safe and easy to sell to your customers.
Take surveys, test products and provide feedback
This is a fun way to earn a little extra cash, but it’s not a steady flow. The L’Oreal Consumer Testing Bureau andPink Panel provide opportunities to test beauty products for free products and cash. And then there are focus group firms, like Advanced Opinions (aka OA Groups) offer surveys you can complete for cash. G2 is another one where you can complete reviews of specific tech platforms, like Zoom or Dropbox, in exchange for Amazon gift cards.
