Star Harvey is the meteorologist for the PIX11 Weekend Morning News from 8 to 10 a.m. and weekday feature reporter. She joined the station in April of 2022 and is thrilled to be a member of the best news team in NYC.
Star was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Where she studied and obtained her bachelor’s degree in journalism from California State University Of Northridge (CSUN). Harvey says it was in the two years of working as a news assistant for ABC7 KABC Los Angeles that her love for weather was reignited. Leading her to enroll at Mississippi State University (MSU) to obtain a degree in geoscience.
In addition to working for ABC7 Los Angeles, Star has also worked for multiple media platforms. Most recently, for KIAH in Houston, TX on the “No Wait Weather + Traffic” morning show as a meteorologist and lifestyle show co-host for “Houston Happens.”
Star made her debut on set in Texas during Winter Storm 2021, when she covered record weather for the city of Houston and impacted areas throughout Texas. Before working at KIAH Houston, she landed her first job at KREX News 5 News Grand Junction, CO as a meteorologist on the weekday evening news, after getting her start as a multimedia journalist at the station. The Los Angeles native also worked as a newsroom editor/anchor for the CSUN owned 88.5 KCSN and the well-known LA Parent Magazine.
Star has covered all types of weather events, including avalanches, snowstorms, hurricanes, wildfires, droughts, and other types of national weather phenomena. Her passion for weather began as a young girl when she lost her home in the 6.7 magnitude earthquake that rattled her hometown of Northridge, CA back in 1994.
When she’s not chasing the high and lows of weather, Star is passionate about spending time in the community speaking to inner city youth about weather and encouraging them to look at careers in the STEM fields.
During her time at KREX News in Colorado, she created the segment “Wanna be a weather Star” aimed towards giving children a day in the life experience of a broadcast meteorologist. While at KIAH in Texas, Star also created the segment “Weather Wednesday,” which included demonstrating live weather experiments on-air, geared toward making weather events easy to understand for all ages.
Star is extremely excited to serve the tri-state area and says she and her son Bryce look forward to eating at new restaurants and exploring all that NYC has to offer.
