News Closeup: Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, NYCHA panel

The borough of Brooklyn is larger than many small cities and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams is at the helm. Adams is a former police officer, member of the state senate and now a potential candidate for mayor.

Adams joins Marvin Scott on News Closeup to address the many issues Brooklyn is dealing with. Chief among them is gun violence, proposed community jails as Rikers Island faces closure, the opioid epidemic and police suicides. Adams himself had emotional issues and sought help. He credits meditation and other self-care methods, including good nutrition. He battled back from a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis, primarily curing himself by adopting a plant-based diet.

Marvin also welcomed PIX11's Monica Morales to his show, and she in turn invited two tenant presidents of NYCHA housing, Carmen Quinones and Ron Topping. All three would like to see more done to address deplorable conditions in NYCHA housing. Morales shines a light on the problems confronting tenants in her daily "Monica Makes It Happen" segments on PIX11 News.
