Panarin powers Rangers to 3-1 win over Islanders

Artemi Panarin scored twice to lead the New York Rangers to a 3-1 preseason win over the rival Islanders on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

Panarin, the Rangers’ big free-agent addition this summer, played with both linemates Mika Zibanejad and Pavel Buchnevich for the first time. Buchnevich had an assist on Panarin’s first goal, and Zibanejad assisted on his empty-netter with 16 seconds left.

Vitali Kravtsov also scored for Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist started and stopped all 13 shots he faced, and Alexandar Georgiev had 16 saves on 17 shots.

Jordan Eberle got his fourth goal of the preseason in the third period for the Islanders. Thomas Greiss stopped 27 shots.

Kravtsov, the ninth overall pick in the 2018 NHL draft, opened the scoring at 2:07 of the second period, and Panarin made it 2-0 at 8:43.
