EAST NEW YORK, Brooklyn — Deputy Mayor Vicki Been took PIX11 on a special tour of East New York. She says the neighborhood is on the rise, especially for children. A new state-of-the-art park and community center are coming to the area.

The NYPD community center, set to open next month, has an indoor basketball court and a center for youth activities.

Deputy Inspector Danielle Raia of the NYPD says it more than just a safe place for kids to play. She says it builds important connections.

"It's an amazing opportunity for the youth in the community and we are hoping we can change lives here," she said.
