Man found fatally shot in head on Staten Island Expressway: police

STATEN ISLAND — A man found dead after being shot in the head on the Staten Island Expressway was a known drug dealer, a law enforcement source told PIX11 Tuesday.

According to authorities, someone called 911 around 11:45 p.m. Monday after finding the man lying unconscious on an exit ramp along the highway, near Slosson Avenue.

“It was a drug thing,” a law enforcement source said Tuesday. “He’s a drug dealer.”

Police have identified the man as 23-year-old Carlos Alfonso of Staten Island.

When officers arrived on the scene they discovered the man lying in the middle of the roadway with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

EMS responded and rushed the man to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to authorities.

Authorities said they do not have a suspect or any weapons found, but believe the incident could be a homicide.
