KIRYAS JOEL, NY — A 8-year-old girl was killed by a falling cabinet at an Orange County school Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Police said Ruchy Friedrich was in a classroom with two of her teachers at the Kiryas Joel Union Free School just after 2:30 p.m., officials said.

Friedrich climbed onto a chair to retrieve an item from a large cabinet that was affixed to the wall, when the cabinet fell out, causing severe head trauma to the girl, according to state police.

She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head, according to authorities.
