2 dead in crash on Wantagh State Parkway in East Meadow

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — A crash on Wantagh State Parkway left a car engulfed in flames and two people dead early Sunday.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the parkway, south of Exit W2 in East Meadow, state police said.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling north when it struck the rear of a 2007 Toyota. The crash’s impact caused the Volkswagen to exit off the roadway onto the right shoulder, where it struck a tree and became engulfed in flames.

Two people were confirmed dead at the scene, cops said.

Roads were temporarily closed, but have since reopened.

The New York State Police is requesting that anyone who may have witnessed this incident contact State Police Farmingdale at (631)756-3300.  All calls will remain confidential
