LIRR train strikes tractor trailer; no injuries

FARMINGDALE, N.Y.  — Service on the Ronkonkoma branch has been restored after a Long Island Rail Road commuter train struck a tractor trailer at a grade crossing in Farmingdale.

A railroad spokeswoman says no injuries were reported in the mishap, which happened at the Merritts Road grade crossing during Wednesday’s evening rush hour. Riders on the disabled train were to be transferred to another train.

The railroad says commuters should expect residual delays of up to 15 minutes on the Ronkonkoma branch.

Video shows a jackknifed truck with a mangled front end wedged up close to the train, which did not derail.

Officials have not said what caused the accident.
