New Yorkers gear up for battle over rent increases

NEW YORK — New Yorkers who live rent-stabilized apartments are gearing up for an annual battle over rent increases.

The city's Rent Guidelines Board held a preliminary vote on potential rent hikes Tuesday night. They'll hold a series of public hearings in all five boroughs before taking a final vote toward the end of May.

This is all happening as the state legislature considers establishing universal rent control across the state.
