Pedestrian killed while crossing Long Island highway on foot

OAKDALE, N.Y. — Police say a man who was walking across a Long Island highway was killed in traffic, and they’re trying to determine why he was crossing the major roadway on foot.

It happened around noon Sunday on the eastbound side of Sunrise Highway near Oakdale.

Suffolk County police say the man died at the scene.

No one else was injured, including the 23-year-old driver of the car that hit the man.
