Driver arrested in Long Island hit-and-run crash that killed passenger

CORAM, N.Y.  — Police say they’ve arrested a 25-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say Cruz Emelio Tum-Tipaz was arrested n connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say Cruz Emelio Tum-Tipaz, of Westhampton Beach, was arrested Sunday on charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Information on his lawyer wasn’t immediately available.

Police say the driver fled the scene after driving off the roadway in Corum early Sunday and striking a utility pole. A 28-year-old passenger, Juan Morales Cuterez, of Westhampton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries.
