61-year-old man faces charges after wife shot in face, police say

Vicksburg, MS (WAPT) — A 61-year-old man is in jail, accused of shooting his estranged wife in the face, Vicksburg police said.

Victoria Jefferson, 31, told police her husband, Milton Ray Jefferson, shot her after she would not stop to talk to him. The Jeffersons had been separated for about a month, police said.

The shooting was reported about 9:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Coccaros Street and Halls Ferry Road, police said.

Victoria Jefferson was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where she was last listed in stable condition.

Milton Ray Jefferson surrendered to police about 30 minutes after the shooting. He is charged with aggravated assault-domestic violence, police said. Milton Ray Jefferson is jailed at the Issaquena Correctional Facility, where he awaits a court hearing.
