2 children dead after fire breaks out at Brooklyn apartment

BUSHWICK, Brooklyn — Two children were killed when a fire broke out at a Brooklyn apartment Saturday night.

The blaze started at about 11 p.m. on the second floor of 165 Schaefer St., a three-story residential building in Bushwick.

Payton Gomez, 7, and Hayley Harris, 9,  were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

A 53-year-old man was also taken to the hospital where he is listed in stable condition.

The Fire Marshall will determine the cause of the fire.
