Blaze engulfed Staten Island home, 1 dead: FDNY

NEW YORK — The New York Fire Department says a 62-year-old Staten Island resident died as a result of a fire that engulfed his home.

City firefighters responded early Sunday to the scene where they extracted the man from the home. The Staten Island Advance reports the man, who lived alone at the house, was taken to an area hospital and was later pronounced dead.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries was also taken to a hospital in stable condition. The fire was under control in about an hour, and firefighters were still on scene Sunday.

The New York City Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
