Hamilton Township police say they responded to an alarm at the gas station Wednesday morning, finding the clerk who just fought off the robber. NJ.com reports the employee told police he was confronted by a man wearing a clown mask and wielding a hammer.

The robber demanded cash, but the clerk refused resulting in a fight. The clerk was not injured, and says he was able to see through the mask’s eye holes — telling the officers he appeared to be a white man.

The suspect fled the scene in a dark SUV. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
