One dead, five transported to hospital after motorcycle collision in Brownsville: police

BROWNSVILLE, Brooklyn — One person is dead and five others are injured after a motorcycle collided with a car in Brownsville on Saturday, police said.

The incident happened shortly after 4 p.m. near Belmont Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard.

Police said a 29-year-old woman driving a Nissan was making an illegal U-turn from southbound Mother Gaston Boulevard when a motorcycle travelling north struck the car.

The 47-year-old motorcyclist was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"It's sad that this tragedy happened," a friend of the motorcyclist said to PIX11 News. "People need to obey the rules of the road and the streets... and everybody will be okay."

The driver of the car and four other passengers, including an 8-month-old baby, were taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.

No arrests have been made. An investigation is ongoing.
