27-year-old man killed by shots to head, torso in the Bronx

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, the Bronx — A 27-year-old man was fatally shot in University Heights on Tuesday night, police said.

The man was shot in the head and torso on Andrews Avenue near West 183rd Street, the location of Buddhist temple Chùa Thập Phương, around 8 p.m., an NYPD spokesperson said.

The victim, later identified as Fredrick Hayes, of the Bronx’s Fordham Heights neighborhood, was not a monk or temple attendant, and may have just been walking by the location, police said.

No arrests have been made.
