Bicyclist struck, killed by vehicle in New Jersey

MAPLEWOOD, N.J. — Authorities have released the name of a bicyclist killed in an early morning accident over the weekend in New Jersey.

The Essex County prosecutor’s office says 29-year-old Jeffrey Scott Jr. of Vauxhall was pronounced dead less than an hour after he was struck by a motor vehicle after 2 a.m. Saturday in Maplewood.

Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas Fennelly of the prosecutor’s homicide unit says the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

The prosecutors’ major crimes task force and Maplewood police are investigating. No charges were immediately filed.
