Woman, 79, dies in Long Island house fire

LINDENHURST, L.I. — A woman was killed after a fire broke out in her Long Island home Thursday morning.

Crews battled a fire that broke out at a Long Island home early Thursday.

Authorities were called shortly after 3 a.m. about a house fire on 34th Street and Buffalo Avenue in Lindenhurst. According to Suffolk County police, two nearby residents attempted to enter the home, but were unable to.

After the fire was extinguished, authorities found the body of an adult woman inside. The woman, identified as 79-year-old Ramona Angwin, was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other injuries.

Preliminary investigation determined the cause of the fire is non-criminal.
